Right to Play

The Harty Street Kindergarten C&K educational program will honour every child’s right to play, build on their existing learning from home and provide foundations to be a successful lifelong learner. Your child will experience many opportunities to explore, enquire, solve problems, develop friendships, use their creativity and extend their capabilities in all curriculum areas including language and literacy, numeracy, science, technology and the arts as well as social, emotional and physical development.

The space allows for exploration, friendship development and inspired learning all in a safe, nature-based setting. Activities & Incursions

outdoor play

Develops muscular growth and co-ordination and the opportunity to interact socially at their own level of development. Exposure to natural outdoor environments improves children’s cognitive development by improving their awareness, reasoning and observational skills.
z

music & movement

As well as providing an avenue of expression and creativity, these experiences aid in the development of a range of physical and sensory skills. Children learn to develop spatial and directional awareness, develop coordination and listening skills, explore sounds, musical instruments, singing games and action songs.

art

This includes painting, collage, clay, dough, drawing, and more. It is another area of creativity and self-expression. Art allows the individual to emerge in a situation in which he/she has complete control and responsibility.

history

We subscribe to the Queensland Museum for fortnightly loans and we can organise items that the children are interested in. Borrowed items include bugs, animal skeletons, fossils, rocks, cultural artefacts and many more exciting items for the children to explore and use their inquiry-based learning.

incursions

Events are regularly scheduled at Harty Street Kindergarten C&K to share experiences and activities with your child. Incursions include:
  • Evergreen Children’s Theatre Puppet Show

  • Multicultural Storytelling
  • Hello Africa Drumming Group
  • Magic show
  • Author visits
  • Local Prep Teacher visits

2026 Programs

Long-day Kindergarten      (2 days per week)

  • 7.5 hours per day
  • 2 days per week / 30 hours per fortnight
  • 8:30am – 4pm
  • Monday & Tuesday
  • Fee: the State Government’s “Free Kindy” Initiative applies (provided you are able to nominate Harty St to receive the Qld Kindergarten Funding (QKF) via the enrolment acceptance procedure if an enrolment is offered to you for your child). If you cannot nominate Harty St to receive the QKF (because your child attends also another kindergarten program AND that program is receiving the QKF for your child), then fees are payable. In 2025 this fee is $2,545.80 per term; the 2026 fee will be finalised shortly.
  • no CCS is claimable as Harty St is not a licenced child care centre
  • 7.5 hours per day
  • 3 days per week / 45 hours per fortnight
  • 8:00am – 3:30pm
  • Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
  • Fee: (1) the State Government’s “Free Kindy” Initiative applies to 2 days per week only (ie 30 hours per fortnight) (provided you are able to nominate Harty St to receive the Qld Kindergarten Funding (QKF) via the enrolment acceptance procedure if an enrolment is offered to you for your child). If you cannot nominate Harty St to receive the QKF (because your child attends also another kindergarten program AND that program is receiving the QKF for your child), then fees are payable. In 2025 this fee is $2,545.80 per term; the 2026 fee will be finalised shortly. (2) For the remaining 1 day per week (ie 15 hours per fortnight), as these hours exceed the State Government’s “Free Kindy” Initiative of 30 hours per fortnight, a fee is payable. This additional fee will be finalised shortly.
  • no CCS is claimable as Harty St is not a licenced child care centre

Extended-day

Kindergarten

  • 10 hours per day
  • 2 days per week (40 hours per fortnight)
  • Monday & Tuesday
  • 8am – 6pm
  • (1) Fee for the kindergarten component (8am-3:30pm): the State Government’s “Free Kindy” Initiative applies (provided you are able to nominate Harty St to receive the Qld Kindergarten Funding (QKF) via the enrolment acceptance procedure if an enrolment is offered to you for your child). If you cannot nominate Harty St to receive the QKF (because your child attends another kindergarten program AND that program is receiving the QKF for your child), then fees are payable. In 2025 this fee is $2,545.80 per term; the 2026 fee will be finalised shortly
  • (2) Fee for the after-kindergarten-care component (from 3:30pm) (not funded by the “Free Kindy” Initiative: In 2025, this fee is $600 per term; the 2026 fee will be finalised shortly.
  • no CCS is claimable as Harty St is not a licenced child care centre

Short-day

Kindergarten

  • 6 hours per day
  • 6 days per fortnight
  • 8:45am – 2:45pm
  • Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
  • Fee:
  • (1) the State Government’s “Free Kindy” Initiative applies to 5 days per fortnight only (ie 30 hours per fortnight) (provided you are able to nominate Harty St to receive the Qld Kindergarten Funding (QKF) via the enrolment acceptance procedure if an enrolment is offered to you for your child). If you cannot nominate Harty St to receive the QKF (because your child attends also another kindergarten program AND that program is receiving the QKF for your child), then fees are payable. In 2025 this fee is $2,545.80 per term; the 2026 fee will be finalised shortly. (2) For the remaining 1 day per fortnight (ie 6 hours per fortnight), as these hours exceed the State Government’s “Free Kindy” Initiative of 30 hours per fortnight, a fee is payable. This additional fee is $420 per term in 2025; the 2026 fee will be finalised shortly.

Pre-kindergarten

Our prekindergarten program is not operating in 2026, due to the addition of the Wednesday into the 7.5 hrs per day kindergarten program at the back end of the week, as detailed above.

Teaching Strategies

Our educators use intentional teaching strategies to expand on your child’s disposition for learning and their understandings in literacy, numeracy, and other areas of development. Educators are open to your child’s ideas and will foster their social and emotional growth as they provoke their curiosity. Our experienced educators will build on your child’s strengths and interests through their play, to grow their learning and support their development.
